EXHIBITION, NEU NOW 2017
Sep 14 – 17 2017
‘Surface Synergy’ will be showing at NEU NOW 2017 in Amsterdam.
NEU NOW is Amsterdam’s transdisciplinary art festival
devoted to presenting the work of exceptional emerging artists.
Every year, an international jury selects the best
of graduating artists across Europe.
Today, textile designers have gained the ability to look upon
the technique of weaving through the use of digital tools,
thus challenging what a textile can be.
Artist Johanna Samuelsson explores digital jacquard weaving
by presenting a new take on traditional weaving patterns.
The final result is a three-dimensional texture made by
multi-layered bindings and shrinking yarn.
The work is a fascinating study of what
current and future fabrics can be.
